    2x + 5y = 8
    and 3x - 2y = 0

    ie 4x + 10y = 16 and 15x - 10y = 0

    add both
    19x = 16
    x = 16/19

    hence y = (3/2) * (16/19) = 24/19

    so 2x + y = 32/19 + 24/19 = 56/19
